Canyon Moon Shirt Design

Physical Prototype

“And I keep thinking back to a time under the canyon moon.” 🌙

The shirt design is inspired by the song “Canyon Moon” by Harry Styles. The essence of the song is captured through the landscape of mountains and stars under a full moon.

Problem: Fans often complain about the overall design of their favorite artist’s merchandise. Existing merch designs aren’t appealing or too expensive.

Solution: A shirt with a subtle design that can be worn to concerts or a grocery store run.

Design Highlights

paper design

The initial sketch was hand-drawn on paper. I gathered inspiration for the mountains and moon from photos I found on Pinterest. I drew several versions where I experimented with the placement of the sun and stars, but this was the design I ultimately settled on.

digital design

I uploaded the design into Adobe Illustrator and cleaned up the lines and added in text. The next step was to determine the correct size width that would be suitable for shirt sizes small through 2XL.

I printed several versions to test the sizes, before deciding on a width of 11’”x 11”.

final version - pictured on a size small

I used my Cricut to cut the design into iron-on vinyl and used an X-acto knife to weed out the unwanted pieces of vinyl. I realized that the dots that were in the original design were too small for the Cricut to properly cut, so I took them out of the design. Next, I used a heat press to transfer the vinyl onto the shirt and took pictures using my iPhone to upload for product listing photos.
